NADA New York 2024

Julia Weist is the only licensed private investigator in America whose work is in the permanent collection of MoMA. In 2022, the artist positioned her practice as the investigative experience required to earn a license and was approved; she now has access to information that is collected and sold to law enforcement, including a database of timestamped images of vehicles on the road. She has positioned this particular database as the point of departure for four distinct series of works on view at NADA New York, all of which confront and challenge the gaze of this ubiquitous surveillance.
