‘Cry Factory’ is a dialogue between nature and industrial, mechanized creations. A horse with a bow and arrow atop a factory symbolizes change and transformation. The bolt in the top right-hand corner of the tile underscores a sense of mechanization. While factories run the world, and human connection to nature is being upended, much like the upside-down horse attempting to shoot an arrow in the direction of nothingness. The title of the work strikes a note of melancholy in the face of this realization.

The ceramic roof tiles coated with platinum glaze represent an iteration of a 2023 series of works that originated from a concern for the sustainable stewardship of cultural heritage sites but have since transformed to encompass broader social commentary with an element of absurdity.
