Moko Fukuyama, “A Kind of Pain,” 2019

Description

The Sphinx is pleased to present a sculpture by Moko Fukuyama. The sculpture is designed with real lure-making techniques and materials, exploring ideas of desirable objects, trickery and transformation. Constructed from a walnut log, part of the timber is raw, while the lure component is carved, sanded, and finished with automotive paint and epoxy resin. Playing on a fish’s hyper-sensitivity, the angler’s gambit necessitates the use of enticing lures. Fukuyama reflects that the craftsmanship of creating lures is essentially psychological, considering appetite, attraction, and deception.
