Largely inspired by his experience traversing fictional virtual worlds in video games, Tada’s practice revolves around a central question: Where does reality truly lie in an era where the virtual and physical are so intimately intertwined?
Tada’s “Paintings of incomplete remains” series is perhaps the most straightforward expression of this question. These works, which look like cracked and deteriorating 17th century landscape paintings, are “fake” in the sense that not only do they depict places (often from or inspired by video games) that don’t actually exist in real life, their “age” is also a lie, having been artificially aged by the artist.
