Emerging directly from Mayela Allen’s emotionally laborious and physically demanding weaving practice, her works on paper embody the Spanish concept of desahogar—“to vent” or “undrown.” These works become a form of nonverbal journaling, emphasizing color relationships, patterns, and emotional healing.
