In Sara Nickleson's paintings, to assemble means, in the artist’s words, “to join together with a purpose.” In Conclave at the Potash, figures meet at a salt marsh, which are among the most vulnerable ecosystems on the planet. This assembly of figures—both metaphysical and profoundly of the earth—confer with one another amidst a landscape that is at once an aftermath and a new beginning.
