South African artist Liberty Du is widely recognized as a grafitti artist under the name Faith XLVII. She creates murals, sculptures, installations, and tapestries that deconstruct notions of empire. This tapestry work, Chaos Theory, comes from a larger body of work in which the artist collects, deconstructs, and then restitches atlases and maps into tapestries whose gradients of color resemble the hue of earth and soil more than the bright colors of man-made political borders.
