Carol Bouyoucos’s digital photographic works evoke a romanticism and nostalgia for nineteenth century landscape painting, though created with distinctly 21st century tools. Bouyoucos currently lives and works on a sanctuary preserve which has a tremendous effect on the way that she portrays nature in her art. Collaborating with AI, she creates environments of a fleeting world, and she embraces the aesthetic tension that digital materiality imposes on the work to redefine it and offer new questions about it.
