Moderated by Spike editor Alexander Scrimgeour.
Painting’s code is made and remade over long spans of time, in feedback loops, in dialogue with history. And again and again it stands in the way of progress. How does painting function as a code or a language – perhaps even that underlying all forms of art?
Fabrice Stroun is an independent curator based in Geneva who recently co-curated a solo exhibition of Rochelle Feinstein’s work at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève. He was director of Kunsthalle Bern from 2012 to 2015.
Alexi Kukuljevic is an artist and a philosopher based in Berlin who is currently finishing a book titled Liquidation World. He recently curated a three-person exhibition with James Krone, Amy Sillman and himself at Tanya Leighton Gallery, Berlin.
Spike Conversations are dialogues with artists, curators, and critics about current developments in art and the art world. Topics of discussion include: “painting as code;” post-humanism and the possibility of its figuration, and “Is the artist obsolete?” The stage will be transformed into a green-screen box, with a DJ before and after the talks.
