SARA’S is pleased to present “The Bridge of Sighs!” a dual showing of new work by Tashi Fay and Julien Parant-Marquis. The paintings on view are exaggerated and delicate. Fay’s Freudian vignettes are sharp and sticky, while Parant Marquis’ “chaos landscapes” brim with horror vacui. Referencing a comedic Victorian-era poem on the preoccupation with melancholy, “The Bridge of Sighs!” reflects the enduring sense of solemnity attached to our own era—increasingly thick with violence—and the nihilism, humor and subliminal wandering that has historically soothed the psychic trauma of troubled times.
