Unifying the history of the monument with cartoon imagery, Isolina Minjeong addresses humanity through the figure. Known as the “Woogies” (short for little dance) Isolina’s society of ceramic protagonists derives from ancient Korean & Pre-Columbian sculpture. Infused with the potency of American bootleg toy design, her hybridization of cultures become examinations of heritage and the vibrant subcultures that exist within craft. As emotive and vibrant as theyare large in scale, the Woogies begin as hundreds of pounds of clay.
