Burnaway presents Ato Ribiero’s intricate sculptures, unpacking his intercontinental upbringing in Africa and the US. His work and research mine through and honor various shared and neglected histories to speak to his contemporary sense of cultural hybridity visually. By reimagining traditional mediums—collecting, joining, and refining natural and repurposed materials— he seeks new reference points while preserving layers of African heritage and varying ethnic perspectives. With the preface that “no response to the work is “wrong,” he invites the viewer to find their place in our common story.
