Existing on the fringes of popular culture, Tomas Harker’s (b.1990, Worksop, UK) practice seeks to engage viewers in an intricate and often-ambivalent interplay between indulgence and exploitation, as well as seduction and repulsion. In his new series, dinner tables appear woozy and intoxicated as they slip between graspable states. Each work is punctuated with subtle gestural drawing or transparent emblems that tease at the presence of a hidden logic; these elements bear a non-linear relation to the image, appearing out of context, out of sync with time, or conflicting in register.
