Hyegyeong Choi’s paintings depict female figures and hybridized feminine creatures as they navigate and animate surreal landscapes. Choi’s shapely subjects effortlessly converge with the lush scenes they inhabit: contorting bodies sink into electric blue pools punctuated with kaleidoscopic flora and fish. Other times, Choi's protagonists trek across enchanting forests and mystical caves. Fresh fruits and glazed donuts are sometimes buried within these bewitching landscapes, as if hidden treasure, waiting to be uncovered.
