Azadeh Gholizadeh says of this tapestry: “Inspired by the landscape in Pilgrim Haven, Michigan, I used a monochromatic color palette for the yarns. I wanted to examine how colors interact and shift in different contexts, much like our perspectives do. I painted the canvas mesh (the scene’s background) a complimentary shade to manipulate how we perceive color. For example, the dark green color of tree trunks in “Citron Yellow” reads as brown in juxtaposition to the blue background.” The composition sprung from a photo Gholizadeh took while hiking by the beach; she was especially entranced by the blue color of the sky as it peeked through trees.
