“Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya, Ne Ne Ne Ne Ne” quotes Joseph Beuys’s famous Fluxus work “Ja Ja Ja Ja Ja, Nee Nee Nee Nee Nee” from 1969, a materialized taped audio recording in which the musicians Henning Christiansen, Johannes Stüttgen and Beuys himself continuously repeat the words “Ja Ja Ja Ja Ja, Nee Nee Nee Nee Nee” like in a mantra, for almost an hour. The new textile flag version “Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya, Ne Ne Ne Ne Ne Ne” expands the work’s spiritual mantra-like allegories, making a connection to the Arabic/Persian/Turkish word “Yaيا/”, which is pronounced in the same way as “Ja”, and using a type font often appearing in religious flags (Ya Hossein..).
