Bayne Peterson hand carves pre-dyed, joined sections of plywood together and sculpts his forms to reveal dynamic patterns along the surfaces of his works. His sculptures are celebrations of pattern and color and are meticulously rendered. They reference various craft and architectural traditions, optical painting, and biomorphic abstraction.
Peterson received an MFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2013. His works have been exhibited at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI, the RISD Museum, Providence, RI, the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Arts and Design, Toyama, Japan, and the Museum of Arts and Design, NY, among other venues. Collections include the Museum of Arts and Design, NY, and the RISD Museum, Providence, RI. His recent solo exhibition ‘Mirage’ at Kristen Lorello was reviewed in The Brooklyn Rail by Amanda Gluibizzi.
