Miller & Shellabarger’s artist books are informed by fragmented ephemera of older work. Their heads, entangled bodies and handprints from gunpowder drawings are layered and re-layered atop one another, traveling backward and forwards through time, on the pages of cinematic and narratively confusing artists’ books.
The book is non-linear in its narrative, and the imagery repeats throughout. There is also a repetition of a text quote from Gertrude Stein (The Making of Americans) both at the beginning and end of the book.
