Noel W. Anderson is known for his explorations into the evolving makeup of black male identity as seen through the lens of American media. Woven from images of basketball players, Anderson’s three new textiles explore the relationship between sports and protest. The appropriated photos are warped and distorted, then woven into jacquard tapestries that are subsequently bleached, unraveled and distressed to the point that these recognizable figures slip into abstraction.
