Dominic Parlarchio’s “Advanced Age Assemblage” is an ersatz toolbox made of Murano glass that reflects on the toll of factory labor. Within the heated chambers of this glass object, Vaseline—a salve for the body—quietly melts, mirroring what the artist calls the “slow, irreversible transformations” of factory labor, and its impact on the body and mind. Bathed in warm, incandescent light, the work imagines a release from the factory, and a renewed understanding of the preciousness of human life.
