Azadeh Hussaini’s “Vertical Living” embodies the sonic experience of sharing shelter. The work is an assembly of people’s lives, with audio recordings of everyday life embedded within stacks of cardboard recycled newspapers, and personal letters stacked one on top of the other like people living in a skyscraper. Speaking to the precarity and possibility of contemporary global cities, Hussaini’s work emerges from her work with refugee communities in Chicago.
