Camille Eskell draws together disparate cultural and political references from her own Middle Eastern and Indian heritage to challenge patriarchal culture. Inspired by the crowns of Mesopotamian Queen Puabi of Ur, this full-length mantle and crown presents the imagined cloak of a powerful woman of the past as a model for contemporary protest movements, advocating that, as the artist says, “women worldwide assemble to demand what is rightfully theirs: the ability to live fearlessly with dignity and equality.”
