Honoring both her modern aesthetic and the materials and cultural context of her upbringing, Teresa Baker transforms synthetic materials into works that reference territories’ irregular shapes. In this discussion, Baker will talk about her mixed media practice in which she combines artificial and natural materials to create abstracted landscapes that explore vast space, and how we move, see, and explore within them. The materials, texture, shapes, and color relationships are guided by Baker’s Mandan/Hidatsa culture to explore how identity can relate to innate objects.

Baker will be in conversation with Nellie Scott, Director of the Corita Art Center.
