“This painting is based on a car wash fundraiser for a Slanguage kid who died in the neighborhood (pictured on the wall). It’s not uncommon in car cities like Los Angeles to do fundraisers when someone dies. To me, these stories and spaces are so visually interesting. For a long time, I used to check in at the neighborhood car wash to catch up on the neighborhood gossip, connect with neighbors or friends. It was like my Starbucks.” - Karla Diaz
