In the series of works “Variations”, Iosu Aramburu performs a double operation. On the one hand, he builds a direct dialogue with Peruvian artists of the first half of the 20th Century, elaborating the composition of the works from their drawings or paintings. On the other hand, this series investigates the pictorial qualities of unconventional materials linked to some notions of modernity - cement, and textiles. The weight and density of the cement creates a contrast with the sensuality of the plush or the opacity of a car carpet, causing a symbolic tension in the contact between the materials.
