Josie Love Roebuck, is an interdisciplinary artist who combines embroidery and painting to create intimate, autobiographical portraits that explore her experience growing up as an adopted, biracial woman in a predominantly white family and neighborhood. Her self-actualized paintings re-create the narratives of overcoming and healing from emotional trauma. Loaded with symbolism from her personal history and real instances in the artist’s childhood, the paintings show a figure in transformation that embody the duality of pain and triumph, exclusion and acceptance.
