Working across painting, drawing, and performance Katie Lyle addresses systems of felt experience, examined through the use of layering, experimental processes and material relationships. Through a responsive process of addition and subtraction, her collaged canvases give form to the felt combination of movements that occur during their making. Forms and figures are created out of the shapes and marks that accumulate on the surface, and content is derived from countless transfers and layers of materials, care and re-edits. Combining oil paint, pencil crayon, oil stick, chalk, and charcoal her paintings collapse the tension between narrative and process.
