“Sorry to inform you” is a site-specific installation by Vladislav Markov featuring a trove of objects that are foundational in the artist’s process of synthesizing sculptures, as well as a massive ceiling-mounted pigment transfer painting. In the painting, Markov’s photogrammetric self-portrait in a post-surgery recovery mask is disengaged in the way a baby in utero lacks situational awareness during an ultrasound. Meanwhile, the myriad “discarded” objects cover the walls akin to a detritus-filled balcony in a Soviet-era prefabricated apartment building, its typical dwellers regularly choosing to block out the sun in order to gain some extra storage space.
