NADA House 2022

Combining paintings, furniture and objects in a colorful pseudo-naive aesthetic reminiscent of Jacques Tati, Elvire Bonduelle revisits the trinity of Suburban happiness. From bourgeois Hausmanian apartments, to suburban pavilions in the outskirts of Bangkok, her objects are created in response to architecture. Made of ready-made expressions or repetitions of a single word calligraphy on canvas over gesturally painted waves, her paintings revel in their own simplicity. Bonduelle’s work gently pokes at the "house-car-dog ideals” of the post-cold-war-middle-class-American dream, with hints at urban and suburban alienation alluding to the military past of the island and its conversion into a giant playground.
