Rachel Yanku is a visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY.
“Tone: Sarcastic and Sincere. I am four years old but add twenty. I go into my playground everyday. In reality: a corner of the living room…my roommates’ generously call my “Studio”. I crave messy mash mops and flip flops of memories and textures. Exciting myself; to ignite that sensibility from my old self..young self. These objects serve as a time traveling mechanism. In reality: glued up trash with photos on top. Layering it with glue: It feels sensual. I bought an overpriced Modge Podge at my local arts and crafts store. Brooklyn is expensive but I know the Metropolitan life was a dream of mine since I was little: the crazy energy that buzzes inside is finally matched by the city that surrounds me. Super cool…now I am super cool? I made this type of stuff when “I was a kid” I exclaimed to my dad and you thought it was smart…now all of a sudden you don’t? These works were inspired by the funny version of myself that is too often left behind: these works remind me to bring the spunk forth. Here are my Trophies for To Kid.”–Rachel Yanku
